We've been effusive in our praise of the Anker PowerCore Fusion, which combines a USB battery pack and a USB wall charger into a single device that's ideal for travel. But now, Anker's updated the gadget with a feature we've been clamoring for: a USB-C Power Delivery port.
The New PowerCore Fusion
The new PowerCore Fusion 5000 PD is roughly the same size and shape as the old one, but replaces one of its two USB ports with an 18W USB-C PD port. That port will work whether the Fusion is plugged into the wall or running off its internal battery, and is capable of charging the latest iPhones from 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes. It can also charge most tablets faster, extend the life of a Nintendo Switch, and even give your laptop a little extra runtime in a pinch.
Our friends at Trivia Genius have written up a great explainer of USB-C PD, and a roundup of accessories you'll want to check out to take full advantage of the faster charging speeds.
How It Works
Everything we loved about the original Fusion is still present: You can plug it in by your nightstand at night to both recharge your devices and the Fusion's internal battery, and then take it with you during the day to top up your gadgets, no wall outlet required. It's all of the advantages of a portable battery, but without the hassle of bringing an extra wall charger and charging cable to juice it back up once it's empty; just unfold the AC prongs and plug it in.
The 5,000 mAh internal battery is large enough to provide a full charge to most modern smartphones, and now, it can do it more quickly than ever.
